Sunsets and Stargazing in Tenerife this September

Milky Way, Aurigids & More!

If you're planning a summer trip to Tenerife this September, there’s one experience that simply can’t be missed — watching the sun set above the clouds and gazing into a crystal-clear night sky filled with stars, galaxies, and meteors.

In September, Night Skies Tenerife offers the ultimate evening adventure: Sunset & Stargazing Tours in Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and certified Starlight Destination.

September Skylight - The Aurigids Meteor Shower

September nights in Tenerife bring a spectacular cosmic show — the Milky Way arching from Sagittarius to Cassiopeia, summer constellations shimmering overhead, and the Aurora of the Aurigids meteors lightly dancing across the sky - peaking around 1st September.

Constellations Over Tenerife in September

From the volcanic slopes of Teide, September nights bring an extraordinary mix of constellations:

  • Scorpius (The Scorpion) - Dominating the south-western sky, home to Antares, a red supergiant star often called the “heart of the scorpion.”

  • Sagittarius (The Archer) - Look for the ‘Teapot’ asterism, where the “steam” seems to rise straight into the Milky Way’s core.

  • Cygnus, Lyra & Aquila  - These three form the Summer Triangle, with bright stars Deneb, Vega, and Altair marking its corners.

  • Cassiopeia & Perseus - Rising high in the northern sky, Cassiopeia’s “W” shape makes it easy to spot, while Perseus hosts beautiful star clusters.

  • Pegasus - Known for the Great Square, it also points towards the Andromeda Galaxy — the most distant object visible to the naked eye.

All of these are visible with the naked eye, but through our telescopes, they become truly unforgettable.

Galaxies and Deep Sky Objects

From Teide National Park’s altitude and darkness, deep-sky viewing is phenomenal. In September, you can spot:

  • The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) - Our nearest galactic neighbour, visible as a faint, glowing oval.

  • The Ring Nebula (M57) - A perfect smoke-ring of gas left behind by a dying star in Lyra.

With Night Skies Tenerife, these aren’t just distant names — they’re live, in-telescope experiences.

Zodiac Signs in the September Sky

  • Aquarius (The Water Bearer) - A sprawling constellation representing knowledge and transition.

  • Capricornus (The Sea-Goat) - Faint but fascinating, marking the shift from summer to autumn skies.

  • Pisces (The Fishes) - Appearing late at night in the east, this constellation heralds the coming season.

Our guides bring the zodiac to life with mythology and laser pointers to trace their celestial shapes.
